Part 1: The MOM playlist

Part 1: The MOM playlist

I made a playlist inspired by my Mom’s taste in music.

One day while studying for an exam a thought came to me. I was listening to music and I realized how much my music taste has evolved and grown. I had music tasted that ranged from my mom to my dad. The time I would spend with them I remember that music was always involved in the background.

My mom played violin in her younger years but other than that, her love for music came from bands and music and experiences her life. I remember being in the back of the car and going through albums my mom would play. She kept a purple CD wallet thing on the floor of the car and she had so many burned CD’s. Being in the car while music played full blast was the best. I was so young, I had no idea what some of the songs or artists names were. It wasn’t until I actually got a device that I could download music on, that I learned the names of the songs and artists that were with me since birth. Later, my mom got Pandora and that’s where a lot of my mom’s new music came from. A lot of this artist on this playlist I made have inspired my taste in music, some more than others. I know for a fact that everytime my mom recommends me a song, I will more than likely like it.

Music is such a wonderful memory maker and influencer. Some of these songs make me feel very nostalgic and wish that I could hear it again for the first time. I tried my best to pick all the best songs and I only wanted to select a certain number of songs. Some of these songs were played for me as a baby, some in my teen years, and some in my adult years.

Thank You Mom For The Music!

Why do I write about food?

Why do I write about food?

A short post where I ramble about writing…

I have come to the realization that I like to write about food. A lot.

Through my poetry, I almost always have something to say that involves food. It happens through a metaphor or a imagery that I come up from the start or serves as the centerpiece of my poetry.

There is something about food that I love. Doesn’t food make people happy? It can be rewarding, it can be uniting, it can complete, it can serve. Food can do a lot of things in our life. I know for a fact that when I get out of a class or it’s the end of the day, I am so grateful to finally be able to eat. It can either be with a friend or by myself, food is something that refreshes and fulfills an empty stomach.

I usually write about fruit. It’s easier to create a metaphor for the type of fruit I’m using. Since high school, I’ve always had an obsession with fruit. I would eat apples, strawberries, and bananas almost every day to maintain my sweet tooth. My best friend even decided to call me Babyfruit because of how much I would eat them.

WHYDO I WRITE ABOUT FOOD_

Now that I think about it-I don’t have a full explanation why I use fruit or food in my poetry. It is one of the few things that has attached to my writing. I don’t give myself much credit because there is so much to improve on my writing.  Writing is a process and always needs revision. Revision is the hardest for me, besides starting a poem.

I’ve been trying to observe my writing patterns and my stress has been prohibiting my creativity and inspiration. I’m in a stump where I have no idea what to write about. I still have not written a short story!

But, writing takes time! I have much to learn.

Organize With Me: Desktop

Check out these step of how I colored my files and cleaned my desktop!

I wouldn’t consider myself a messy person, although sometimes times I do get pretty cluttered. One thing I would always do is have all my files and icons covering my desktop, and I don’t even want to tell you how bad the Finder was. Besides that, I decided to use my files and folders more efficiently.

1. Trash Crap.

Documents, pdf, images of your favorite artist you used to like need to go in the 🗑. It’s 2018, time to clean out those old high school essays and those from 2 semesters ago. However! Save essays from last semester, you never know when you have to write a thesis statement again, old writings can help with that.

First Impressions: An Interview with (RJ) Robert-Jacob Hinojosa

First Impressions: An Interview with (RJ) Robert-Jacob Hinojosa

Robert-Jacob Hinojosa- movie buff, sports fanatic, music lover, comedian…

On January 23, 2018, at my living room apartment, I interview RJ as he does his accounting homework while watching the Kansasa vs Oklahoma basketball game. I’m procrastinating my reading homework. But don’t worry, we got our stuff done anyway.

New Artist Inspiration: Björk Releases New Single “Blissing Me”

New Artist Inspiration: Björk Releases New Single “Blissing Me”

Björk will be releasing a new album Utopia this November 24th. She has released two singles “The Gate” and “Blissing me”

Björk’s latest single released yesterday. Of course, I impulsively dropped what I was doing and clicked the youtube video. At the first ten words, she said I paused the video and threw my phone. She forever will be indescribably beautiful. The lyrics along with what I believe to a harp just filled my insides with this new kind of beauty that I have not yet been able to see and feel since probably her Vespertine album. Of course, I have seen her musical beauty in Biophilia and Vulnicura, however, this beauty that I am talking about is something so pure and innocent. Almost eclectic and emotional. It makes me think of love, relationship, beauty, sex, and passion. Which is pretty much the same feeling I would get when I would listen to Vespertine or the song “Stonemilker” from Vulnicura. The album Vespertine is personally one of my most favorite collective albums of Björk’s, and in this single, “Blissing Me”, I have gotten the taste again of her emotional diary

A New 30 Days

I am thinking of starting a new challenge this upcoming month. However, it won’t be a daily song challenge, but a POETRY challenge. I wanted to start this so I can practice writing every day. I technically write every day in my English classes, but I feel that it doesn’t fulfill my creative outlet. I saw this specific challenge on this blog. It wasn’t in a text form so I went through the days and wrote down the challenge and created this picture 🙂

30days_of_poetry

I am not sure if I want to start it during the last week of October or in the beginning of November (probably November). But you’ll know once I start posting from the first day. I will try my best to keep consistency! My passion is to write which is one of the reasons why I started this blog to post about my life, my poetry, and about music. I feel this project will help maintain creative flow. We all feel tired and stressed and sometimes we forget to do something for ourselves.

P.S

If you would like to follow my blog, go to my homepage and sign up with your email to get notifications everytime I post, it’s really simple! The subscribe button should be towards the bottom of the page if you are using a mobile device. I would appreciate the follow! New Artist Inspiration: Charlotte Dos Santos

New Artist Inspiration: Charlotte Dos Santos

Like deep velvet and silk.

I came upon Charlotte Dos Santos while I was listening to the Winona Forever Station. The first song I heard from her was Clay, so I thought I should probability listen to other stuff from her. I checked her Spotify profile and discovered that she just released her stuff in 2017 int he album Cleo. She is a Norwegian Singer with a sound that takes you back to the past. It is almost a Nostalgic feel of the 70’s. She attending Burklee College of Music with a background of diverse music inspired from her home life.

Her album released in June 21, 2017 titled Cleo

These tracks have a slow vibes and deep bass lines. Her vocals are eclectic with relaxing smoothness. Her appearance and presentation of herself in her voice and visual  approach gives off very feminine vibes. If I were to compare her to an artists, she has slight similarity to Minnie Riperton with a cross between Little Dragon and Amy Whinehouse.

Her music is so enticing that I can visualize what I am hearing. Her name should not go unnoticed, her take on the production and creation of music gives a whole new sound of modern music. Music in general in our time is starting to bring back the “oldie” sounds which I enjoy very much. If you want to listen to something new listen to Charlotte Dos Santos. Her style gives off such a refreshing motive of beauty. She is such a beautiful and empowering female artist.

Give it a listen, give music a chance.

IT the Movie: WTF did I just watch

This has been one of the best movies I have seen so far in 2017. I can’t really remember what other movies I have seen that came out this year. Perhaps Guardians Of The Gallaxy is up there. But what has been trucking through my mind is the thought of Pennywise the dancing clown and the Losers clubs unity to defeat him and end the traumatizing terrors they face commonly through out the whole movie.

Guess What I GOTT

Most people don’t know this about me but…

I LOVEEEEEEEEEEE to shop!

Although I am cautious to say that I am a SHOP-A-HOLIC. I do buy things but I buy them with reason and with thought. I used to buy things for no reason or purpose. Now I buy with meaning.

  • NEED IT
  • USE IT
  •  or GIVE IT SO SOMEONE AS A GIFT

Those are my requirements, and of course if I can afford, it. I do not shop all the time and when I do I try to donate back to my local thrift store. Or I buy at thrift store. SALE is a necessity for me. Because if individual things cost more than 25 dollars, then I can just wait until the sale comes around. Sales are the best.

But back to the subtitle…Ive come under some items that I was so excited about.

What Do you Want to Do With Your Life?

I have been circling a question through my head. It is the one question that we all face in our coming adult years. What do you want to do?

That question can apply to a lot of meanings. What do you want to do right now? What do you want to do in four years? What do you want to do with yourself?

What do you want to BE?

I do and do not have an answer to that question. All that I know is that I want to be doing something what is from my decision. I want to be able to give myself my own options and I am thinking through a college perspective. I want an apartment, I want to have money or some sort of income, I want an internship, and I want a career that I picked. And so far I am currently working on those things.

The reason why I am writing about this now is because today I got an email from professor I won’t no loner have since I changed my major. So I had to explain to them that I was not going to do their class again for this fall. I also had a talk to my boyfriend about what he wants to do after the four years. Whether or not to do another career choice added on to what he already wants to do.

And that made me think.

What do I want to do when I get to that point of my life?

Right now I changed to be only a English Major. I also added a teaching certificate for the future. But now that I think about it I don’t want to get that certificate and be done with my career. I want to WRITE. I love to write so much and I want to write books. I just don’t know what or where to start. I love poetry but I also want to practice my prose. Not only do I want to be a creative writer but I also want to be a versatile one, where I can write articles and express opinions and issues and reviews. I want to be the best I can be at writing. It is my own way of express and enjoyment of who I am as a person, what my voice is trying to say.

I do and I don’t know what is going to happen.

But I do know that what I’m doing now I want to work hard at it.

What do you think? Where do you think you are in your life? Do you know what you want to do?

Much Love and Support

New Artist Inspiration

Of course the way I spend my morning is watching the latest YouTube videos. I was watching a video about 20 minutes ago from youtuber lindseyrem and it was about her latest summer playlist. Already from the first artist she mentioned- Puzzle aka an extension of The Garden– I was interested in what else she would mention. The next artist was Temporex

I’ve been looking for a new artist with this type of music. It’s calming, simple, and relaxing. One way I could describe this sound is that it’s rounder, polished in a way. I really enjoyed the song Nice Boys from the album We Care. There is no effort to listen to and it is nice for some background sound and moments of lounging around.

This is a pretty nice find, and I can’t wait to lay back, write, read, and listen to it all summer.

Give it a listen, give music a chance.

Garden City Movement

Garden City Movement

I don’t remember when I saw this video, but it caught my attention and the music just gave me a nostalgic vibe. This artist is actually very familiar to me, but I am not sure if I heard anything from them. Maybe when I was listening to a indie playlist on Spotify, I may have heard this song. This also brings back the artists Washed Out vibes from the instrumentation, yet the vocals are different since I am able to hear it clearly than listening to Washed Out. On another note Washed Out is coming out in a tour called the Get Lost Tour, Im really psyched about this, but not too sure that he will come to Austin or even Texas.

But back to Secret Garden Movement, this is a pretty good song and I can’t wait to listen to more of them. Looking back at the video I really do love how they play with color and androgynous characters. This song is a part of their debut release of their single for 2017.

One artists I have been some what obsessing over is Kali Uchis. First off, I think she is a beautiful woman with a very unique voice. She is a Colombian-American singer-songwriter. She sings and makes music in the style of should, indie-pop,R&B, and electronic. The first time I have heard of her was in Tyler the Creators song PERFECT, a song I have been obsessing over beacause of the beauty of the music video and vocals from the three performers. I really do appreciate her voice and the soulfulness of it, very different from a voice I heard of and I can not think of anyone else to compare it to. Its a surprise that I have found her, her beauty and voice is so empowering to me to feel beautiful to myself.

YouTube Videos

My main form of “social media” would be Youtube. I can be on the app or on my computer for hours and hours and waste my time watching videos instead of doing actual work. I love to watch You Tube videos, and I usually watch them for inspiration for writing or creativity. I feel that being on twitter and Instagram is okay, but I like to see peoples effort and production into something they love like creating videos and content for people to watch and enjoy. I wish I could create something like a youtube channel, at one time I wanted to but of course I forget or I get lazy. I mean who knows, maybe someday I might start making videos. In like a 100 years.

For now I’ll stick to writing.

But here are some of my favorite youtubers or youtube videos that I like to watch. None are in any particular order because I could not possibility rate all my faves!

New Artist: Cosmo Pyke and First Impression of “Just Cosmo” EP

A few days ago I slipped into a Youtube black hole as I watched Foxygen’s latest Music video for Follow the leader, I saw a music video titled Chronic Sunshine. It was late in the night, I was doing work that stressed me out way too much and I thought, why not watch it.

Thats when I was introduced to Cosmo Pyke. A 18 year old artist who creates jazzy, lo-fi, soulful hiphop music. His first single was released in 2016 and for this year he released his EP title Just Cosmo. My first impression with Chronic Sunshine blew me away. It was a very new and experimental sound that gave me a chill and relaxed vibe. As I listened also to it wonderful bass line leading into the charming vocals. Cosmo’s voice is charming itself- a deep relaxed vocal quality that reminds me a gentle version of King Krule.

Books

One fact about me is that I love to read. Reading is one of the things I can not give up. Not most people like to read and that is a position that I fully understand. I mean, if you were here that must mean that you obviously like to read. Or maybe tolerate it. Im not trying to write a novel to you, but only to get my words out.

Back to books. Again I love to read. It helps me forget about the day and distress, same as writing my day away. I get to learn new things, hear from peoples perspectives, go to new places, or be inspired. I believe the last time I read a full book was maybe about a month ago, however it does not count as a novel since it was a poetry book. Speaking of poetry, I have been toying with the idea of expanding my knowledge of poetry writing and structure and in deep need to find new poetry books. The class I am taking has so far been using a lot of poetry context and exercise and has helped me write again by analyzing.

Here are some of the books I have been enjoying or enjoyed, some I have not finished yet. (A bad habit of mine)

🌸Noname🌸

Noname is a new artist I was recommended to listen to. I love listening to female hip hop/rapper artists. She is a an American Poet and Hip Hop Artist and Telefone is her first mixed tape released in 2016. I remember that it was a about two weeks ago I was told about her and I forgot all about it. I’m glad I found it again and I can finally listened to a new album. I always having a craving and urge to listen to new music and make it a point to share it with other people. Music is a part of my life and it’s a personal goal or ‘habit’ to expand my knowledge of artists. Especially of artists that are talented and need to be heard. Hope you enjoy…
